Wed. Feb. 28

From a sunny MO,

This has been a rather slow day for us. Jim was moving early and enjoyed both of his breakfast groups. When he returned home, we headed to the Y to walk, cleaned up, and then headed to the "Steakhouse" for lunch - each had a side salad and then split a sandwich.

The semi-annual guy came from Botts and Tye this afternoon to check our furnace/AC system -all is okay for another six months - or should be. I took the girls to the bedroom and we sort of dozed while he was here - or at least dozed before he arrived. They didn't hear him at first as Jim was watching for him.

I put a roast in the oven early this a.m. on low and that is the main part of our supper. I will probably fix baked potatoes and then pull a bag of veggies from the freezer - probably Brussel Sprouts as Jim has really been wanting them. I liked them fine until mom choked on them.

We will watch the Texas basketball game this evening. I pulled out some more yarn and will work on some chemo hats will the game is in progress.

Be safe.

Tues. Feb. 27

From what has been a sunny, but somewhat crisp MO,

This has been a good day for us.

I will back up and indicate that Jim's toe problem turned out to be an ingrown toe-nail - so after a couple of shots and some prodding, he should be recovering in the days to come. An x-ray was also taken on his toe where there was a lump - arthritis was the decision. Jim has stubbed his big toe too many times over the years.

We walked at the Y this a.m. and Jim seemed to do the treadmill in good shape. I wasn't sure with his toe being tender, but he seemed to sail through the process.

After cleaning up, we headed out on a few errands and then ended up at HyVee to do our old geezer discount shopping. Probably our big purchase was a roast that I will put in the oven on low heat in the a.m.

Lee Gibbs came over about 10:30 to go over some fishing lures that Jim uses in Canada. Lee was getting ready to make a trip to KC to do some shopping for lures.

I joined some of the ladies for lunch at Beijing today - Helen, Sandy McGinnis, Mary Willis, Pat, Judy Mathew, Ellen, Clara, and yours truly - am hoping I didn't miss anyone. For some reason the motor on a nearby machine was noisy today which cut down on group discussions so we mainly had two or three way conversations. The buffet is always so good there.

Jim and I dozed for a couple of hours this afternoon. I hadn't really planned on a nap, but decided this was a good option. We almost finished off the chili this evening.

I had a disaster in the refrigerator today. Jim had brought some frozen corn from the basement freezer yesterday (or the day before) and I had put some paper towels under it as it thawed. I am guessing the bag had developed a hole in it at some time as when I looked in the refrigerator about mid-a.m. - there was dripping stuff all over the front of the shelving units. If you have ever cleaned up after freshly cut corn you know how sticky this mess is. I had to clean most of the shelves in the refrigerator and then discovered that the shelves in the door were also "holding" some of the sticky residue. What I probably need to do tomorrow is start at the top of the refrigerator (inside) and remove items from each shelf - and do a thorough cleaning. Of course everything I removed today also had to have the bottom cleaned - so I am sure there is still some residue. Oh, well - gives me something to do.

Jim will join both breakfast groups in the a.m. and I am not sure if I will get out of bed to go to breakfast - or just hibernate.

It is so good to see the sun coming up earlier and earlier and setting later and later - maybe I will be easier to be around.

Be safe.

Sun. & Mon. Feb. 25 & 26

From a sunny, but somewhat crisp MO,

We had a dusting of snow Saturday night. We didn't have any accumulation on our driveway (roads also clear) probably due to the warmth we had the previous days. There is still a little snow in shaded areas today - of course the girls love the snow.

We didn't get much accomplished on Sunday - newspapers, trip to HyVee for hamburger, made chili, knitted, Ohio St. basketball game, and watched the Oscars. Jim had seen more of the movies than I had (he doesn't encourage my going to violent movies as he gets upset when I walk out).

I had to get up at 6:30 this a.m. so the night was rather short. If anything could go wrong on the data base today at Mobile Meals - it did. I know others of you could fathom the problem, but I was stymied on one - data base showed up fine, could enter new data/changes fine, but when I went to print it, the first column printed separately from the rest of the body of the data. I dotted line showed up on print format between the first and second column. I know that the RSVP director will know how to fix it before next Monday - so Ruth and I cut paper, taped, and played with where to set it on the Xerox machine so that we could print off a complete page. I had printed a sample of the labels and they were fine, but sometime in trying to repair the first problem, something got deleted and when the labels printed (first set) the address was missing. Somehow I lucked on how to fix this and was successful in printing the labels as needed. In all, work that usually takes Ruth and me a little over an hour - took almost three hours - and I still needed to deliver the labels to the hospital. Oh, well -

I bagged some chemo hats and Jim chauffeured me to the American Cancer office to deliver them this afternoon. They will keep a few for their office here, but the majority will go to Heartland in St. Joseph. The lady who takes them was telling me that M.D. Anderson in Houston is working with Heartland to coordinate chemo and radiation treatments for their MD Anderson patients. That seems to be a positive sign to me.

Jim went by the foot doctor's office this morning to make an appointment - has a large toenail that is about ready to fall off. They couldn't work him in for a few weeks, but he took the paperwork back about a half hour ago and they had a cancellation and asked if he could come back - so that is where he is now. He had this (or something similar) a few years ago.

I came home this a.m. and Jim had vacuumed upstairs. He is really enjoying using this new vacuum (can see the results in the cannister) and plans on vacuuming every few days until the accumlation slows down. I think the hose had been broken in the Oreck for several months - we just hadn't realized why it was being so difficult to push over the carpet. The Oreck is doing also a good job now, but I think we have several months of accumlation in the old carpet. I'm guessing the air filter on the furnace also won't have to be changed every six weeks as I've done in recent months. -- maybe some of my breathing problems will also be lessened.

Be safe.

Sat. Feb. 24

From a rainy MO,

We awakened to rain this morning and we have had intermittent rain all day. I doubt if there is much of an accumulation, but with the ground being frozen, there are lots of puddles around and some run-off. I haven't looked to see what is in store for us on Sunday, but a couple of days ago there was the prediction of the possibility of some snow showers. The rest of the week is above freezing so even if we get some - it will be gone soon.

This has been a lazy day for us. We slept in this a.m., dressed, packed the girls up, and set off on a couple of minor errands. The rest of the day has seen us being quite lazy - lots of basketball on tv and I have resumed knitting chemo caps. I had a phone call on Friday that the local cancer group was out as well as Heartland. I have plenty on hand, but this seemed to be a good day to get a few more done. If all goes well, I'll do several more on Sunday as the only project I have is a quick trip to HyVee to get hamburger - so I can make a batch of chili.

Be safe.

Wed., Thurs., & Fri Feb. 21-23

I hadn't realized I had not been on for a few days. The computer has been doing some "self" downloads and I made a few attempts, but finally evidently gave up.

We haven't been anywhere too special - Jim had breakfast with the two groups on Wednesday, we dozed too long in the afternoon and I didn't sleep well on Wednesday night, I joined the ladies for breakfast on Thursday, I joined Mary W. and Helen for lunch on Thursday, and today we went to Trenton to attend the funeral of Helen Fulkerson Taylor. Jim's mom would have been a distant cousin to this lady. Several faces were at the service that I recognized from the Fulkerson reunion - most of the older generation is now gone. The lady today was the oldest of six girls in her family - husband died when she was 32 leaving her with two small boys - ages 3 and 6 - farm in financial straits - and somehow she pulled everything together. He died in 1950.

We have walked - am thinking we walked outside on Wednesday as it was almost comfortable by the time breakfast was digested and walked at the Y on Thursday and Friday. The wind had cooled off and I just don't need the cooler air in my lungs when I am moving about. I did a few more laps than usual this a.m. as I teamed up with a buddy and walked - makes for the laps to go much quicker.

We had a new dishwasher installed this afternoon. I had noticed 6 to 8 weeks ago that this one wasn't washing properly and often did the dishes a second time - then the first spring broke in the door - then the second. We have been in the house 35 years and the dishwasher when we moved in was about 5 years old - so I guess they have done about as long as one can expect.

The stove is signalling me that supper is ready - sour cream enchiladas and I need to reheat some peas from last night. Don't worry - fat free sour cream, low fat cheese, low sodium chicken broth, etc.

Mon. & Tues. Feb. 19 & 20

From an almost balmy MO,

We still have some snow mounds, but much of the less dense snow has melted - making for a muddy mess and a delight for the girls.

Monday wasn't as warm as today, but we still did several errands - even with a holiday - and spent a lot of time with the girls. I can't say we accomplished much, but the paperwork has now been sorted and added for doing income taxes - a good feeling. We watched the KU-K-State game last night - I kept thinking that maybe K-State might pull out a victory.

We left about 8:00 this (Tues.) a.m. for KC. We made our usual stops at the Half Price book store, Border's, and Whole Foods in the area north of I-435 in Overland Park, KS - then headed south to the "Land of Paws" to get the girls' dog food and also some doggie treats. Then we crossed the parking area to WilJenny's.

Jim had his beloved Boris Bueller sandwich - pulled brisket with a side of cole slaw, while I tried the Elgin sausage sandwich - absolutely divine. I need to get a lot of water in me the next few days to get the salt content reduced, but the food was great. One of the managers delivered our meals to us and indicated that these were two of his three favorite sandwiches - along with prime rib fixed somewhat like a Philly sandwich. This doesn't appeal to me, but I'm guessing that Jim will want to try it.

We headed north and stopped at Sam's to get trays for Velma and the soup kitchen. I'll deliver these on Thursday as they serve only on Tuesday and Thursday.

The girls were a muddy mess when we returned home today. They had evidently thoroughly enjoyed the muddy backyard as they were mud to above their bellies. We gave them a bath (thank goodness for the utility sink in the basement) and they are quickly drying and smell good - for the time being.

Jim has breakfast with the old geezers (both groups) in the a.m. I am going to call Bob and Karen to see if Bob wants to go to breakfast as I would be glad to go over and be in the house with Karen - if he thinks she isn't ready to be left by herself yet.

Be safe.

Sat. & Sun. Feb. 17 & 18

From a sunny and warmer MO,

We had another round of snow on Friday evening and night - maybe a couple of inches. Thank goodness Jim Suddith showed up on Sat. afternoon and cleared off our driveway again. Actually there wasn't that much on it, but Jim insists on cleaning off our deck and the concrete slab at the back - so I think that is enough pushing of snow for him - and I don't need the cold in my lungs.

We really haven't accomplished much these two days - a few errands on Saturday, a couple of basketball games, I read the new Robert B. Parker book (Jesse Stone and Sunny Randal), put some beans and ham in the crockpot to cook, fixed cornbread today, made a quick trip to Bob and Karen's place this afternoon to take a quart of ham and beans as well as some cornbread, held the girls a lot, etc.

Karen is back for about 6 weeks from the M.D. Anderson clinic at Houston. She either leaves here the 21st of March or has to be back at MD Anderson by the 21st. She looked good today - actually I thought she looked better than the last time I saw her. Bob has a terrible cold and quietly told me that he thought he just became exhausted while in Houston. Anyone who has spent time at a hospital knows how exhausting that can be and she was in ICU for a few days after surgery. Sandy Ross had taken some vegetable soup over to them a little earlier today.

Abby is in her favorite spot - the crook of my left arm - so typing is a little difficult.

We need to do several errands on Monday as well as walk at the Y. Jim is wanting to go to KC on Tuesday as we need food for the girls and we need to get more divided trays for Velma. I also printed off a new Bernard Cornwell notice today for Jim and I think he is going to look for that book at either Barnes & Noble or Borders.

I can't remember if I mentioned that Ted Anderson died a few days ago. He is a grandfather for Jim's freshman male pole vaulter from last year. I know he was in and out of the hospital a few times last spring and Clint's mom was helping to get him to treatments.

Be safe.

Feb. 16 - second blog

I forgot to mention that Kathy Haney Carlton called me today. Chuck is home and "yes", he did have pneumonia. He first had been in the local hospital and then had been transferred to St. Luke's. He is to behave himself in upcoming days, but that will be difficult for Chuck as he is as bullheaded as Jim.

Fri. Feb. 16

From a bitterly cold and snowy MO,

This has been a day to stay indoors if at all possible. I think it was about -4 when we began sort of moving this a.m. with the windchill about ten degrees below that. The wind was from the south - can't imagine how bad it would have been had it been from the north.

We slept in this a.m. - almost 9:00 when we awakened. After getting dressed, we headed to the Y to walk - actually was surprised at how many were there. After returning home and cleaning up, we headed to the doctor's office as Jim had an appointment - no problems were pointed out. We then headed to the SteakHouse for lunch, then home to get some items to be able to do some errands, and finally retreated to the house.

Abby is now asleep with her head nestled on my left arm - makes for tricky typing. She would skip eating for the chance to be cuddled on a lap.

We are getting some light snow this evening - I think the prediction is one or two inches. The good news is that the daytime temps next week should be in the 40s and 50s - and I am ready for that - also the night lows are to be in the 20s - that will almost seem like spring break!

We have no particular errands for Saturday, but I do need to spend some time with IRS data and should run the vacuum cleaner. We were hoping they would add the Texas basketball game to the tv schedule, but so far that has not been done.

Be safe.

Feb. 14 & 15

From a sunny, but cold MO,

The two days have been full.

Jim joined both breakfast groups on Wednesday, then we walked at the Y, and then I headed to the doctor's office for a yearly exam - and to weigh in. Now why did I schedule this for two days after returning from Los Angeles! We did a few errands afterwards and then headed to the new "steakhouse" for a Valentine's meal. Thankfully we were there early and had no line.

I joined the ladies for breakfast this a.m. - ended up probably having ten in attendance. The conversations were many and varied so it was an active a.m. I had a hair cut at 10:00 and then we headed to the Y to walk. I did one or two laps with Jan Logan and towards the end (about a dozen or so laps later) did two or three with RoseLee Davis. I had a library board meeting at 1:30.

Tom had e-mailed that the new Sports Illustrated magazine had Kevin Durant on the front so we headed to WalMart - struck out - went to Piggly Wiggly (a grocery store) - struck out - and found the magazine at HyVee. Kevin Durant is one of the four starting freshmen on the Texas basketball team.

I stuck a pork tenderloin roast in the oven (on low heat) early this a.m. and it was done before I headed to the board meeting. Supper will be easy as we will have the pork, baked potatoes, and finish off some veggies from a couple of days ago.

We have no big plans for Saturday. At this time it appears that Texas won't be on one of the channels that we can get - maybe that will change tomorrow.

Two items of news this a.m. was that Chuck Haney has been in the hospital, but what I heard this afternoon was that his multiple exams turned out well and other than a very bad chest cold (not quite pneumonia) he was probably coming home today. James Beemer is another story. I am not quite sure what he fell off (maybe a step ladder), but more or less shattered the bones in his right arm. After a trip to our local emergency room, a drive to Liberty - several hours of waiting there - mostly sitting as all ER beds were full - it was discovered that the Liberty hospital is not on their medical plan - ended up returning to Chillicothe with a pain medication which turned out to be a very low dosage of medication so had a rough night - return to NKC hospital for about three hours of surgery - and is now home and chomping on the bit as he is not used to being lazy. Marcia was at the beauty shop this a.m. when I arrived and looked tired and exasperated.

A few of you might remember Irene Cooper as she taught in our elementary system for many years. Last night's CT carried an obituary for her.

Be safe.

Feb. 6-13

From a snow covered and cold MO,

We have had quite a week. I will try to narrate a few of the things that we have done, but I know in my tiredness I will forget some things.

We spent last Tuesday packing, doing errands, getting girls to kennel, vacuuming, shampooing rug, etc. We had a relatively short night of sleep as we had a 11:00 a.m. flight from KC - about two hours to drive there, needed to park, needed to check bags, and needed to go through security!

The flight to LA was a little rough at times because of lots of clouds, but the landing was smooth in LA and the air was clear. After collecting luggage, getting the rental car (a story in itself) we headed to El Cholo's. I'll back up with the car as we haven't rented a car for several years - knew we didn't want a compact and thought a full size car was a "land yacht" so we asked for an intermediate - ended up being a Chevy Uplander - more of a Venture/SUV variety. We drove it for 24 hours and then returned it on Monday to exchange for a full size - Jim had cussed about every block as he drove it and parking wasn't very easy with it.

El Cholo's was a good as ever. We opted to get a sampler platter of items and since it had been hours since we had eaten at Perkins in KC (about 7:00 - 5:00 LA time) we were famished.

We headed on to the Comfort Inn, checked in and started to unpack. Margaret (Jim's sister) called that she was heading to UCLA and her weight loss clinic and would really like it for us to join it. It is quite an operation there and we sat in on their weekly meeting for a good time - thoroughly enjoyed hearing others talk about food temptations.

We went to the Dragon Palace for our evening meal - Margaret, Tim (nephew) and his wife, and Holly joined in for a good meal and a lot of good family time. Holly left earlier than the rest of us as she was picking up her husband (another Tim) at LAX.

We finished unpacking, had a good night of sleep, and headed to The Omelet Parlor a little after 6:00 - omelets are half price before 7:00. I had my usual Merlin omelet - Swiss cheese, spinach, and mushrooms while Jim had a waffle with strawberries and bananas. We next went by Margaret's to see how the a.m. was going and saw Tim and Holly briefly. Then we made the return trip to the rental car agency at the airport to swap cars.

We spent much of the rest of the day unpacking and resting. Tim and Risa picked us up that evening and we headed to Hermosa Beach and Holly's art show. This was in what used to be a theatre and the place is lovely. There was a large crowd there - from those coming off the beach to those rather dressed up. We had a good visit with Tim and Risa - probably the first time we had been alone with them since they were married in 2002.

We were up and moving early on Friday and went to Junior's (a Jewish deli) for breakfast. We had scrambled eggs with lox along with bagels. I don't think we had ever eaten breakfast there before - am thinking I prefer the food later on, but what we had was still quite good. We joined Margaret, Tim and Holly, and Tim's mother and step-father at Gladstones for a lunch. This is an eating place at the point where Sunset Blvd. meets the ocean beach. We saw dolphins in the Pacific Ocean - quite a view. Later that afternoon we went to the Third Street promenade in Santa Monica. Entertainers were already beginning to show up so we enjoyed the walk and the activities.

On Saturday we decided to take an early morning walk - turned out to be about a mile and a half when we drove it later. We ate breakfast at the motel (a light breakfast) as were were being taken by Spiro (an apartment tenant from Greece) to a Greek church and restaurant. St. Sophia's church is not anything special from the outside, but the interior is superlative! The stained windows and all the gold on display was enough to really get your attention. Spiro did a good job in showing us around. Afterwards we went to Papa Cristo's for a Greek meal. The place is not fancy as you order your food from a display case. Spiro made sure we had a sampling of many items and of course we were stuffed when we finished. The rack of lamb was out of this world in tenderness.

When we returned to the apartment house, we picked up Margaret and headed to Loyola Marymount for a women's basketball game. Carolyn ( a niece) works in the sports information department a LMU and had gotten tickets for us as well as students that Catherine (another niece) has in the fourth grade this year - and their parents. The kids had been provided with pom-poms and Catherine got them into the yelling spirit of the game - easy to do as the lead kept going back and forth. Some company also donates pizzas that are handed out at half-time to groups that are cheering well - and of course this fourth grade group received a pizza - they were quite excited about this as well. Tom (C&Cs father) had driven up from Hemosa Beach to join us. When Margaret, Jim, and I returned to Santa Monica we decided to eat again at the Dragon Palace.

On Sunday, we met Carolyn and Catherine at the Omelet Parlor for a good breakfast and of course enjoyed our visit with them. Afterwards we went by Margaret's to see Tim and Holly before they returned to San Francisco that afternoon. We spent some time packing at the motel and then headed off to Redondo Beach to walk on the Rainbow Pier - haven't done this in many years and it had been expanded a great deal since our last visit. We then went to Hermosa Beach to Tom and Linda's place. Linda had been in Sacramento for several days to an educational meeting and landed at LAX about the time we started walking (maybe three or four blocks) to the Comedy Shop. Linda joined us there for a good dinner, saw two "warm-up" comics, and then settled in to a marvelous presentation by Jay Leno. He ended his comedy routine by reading "jokes" from several 3/5 cards to see how they went - then will use some of them on his show this week.

We were back in Santa Monica a little after 10:00 - did some last minute packing (had taken two bags to the car trunk during the day) and finally got to bed - with the alarm being set at 3:00 a.m.

Several people had told us that Monday morning was a terrible time to fly because of all the business people so we wanted to get to the airport early - which we did - checked in the car - used the shuttle bus to get to the airport - then found out that the desk for our airline didn't open until 5:15 so we waited. The bagged was checked and tagged there, but then we had to take it to another place for going through the x-ray machine. I guess Midwest has only one desk and we were in the same area with other airlines with one desk. We then walked to another area to go through regular security (thank goodness I had worn my Birks) and we were just cleared through security when an alarm went off and no one else came through for quite a while. I am not sure what had transpired, but I had overheard the checkers telling someone that something they had could not be carried on the plane, but could be put into their baggage and checked that way. Anyway, we were glad that we had already cleared security and weren't in a rush to get to our gate.

The flight back was good and the only rough part was when we were descending into KC. My major, near catastrophe occured probably in the last 30 to 45 minutes of the flight. I had finished reading a book, put it into my backpack, and realized that the left lens from my glasses had fallen - thank goodness into my hand. I spent some time trying to figure out how I could wrap them and put them into my purse so that no further damage would happen. I figured the screw had come out, but without glasses I am almost blind for close visual needs.

We stopped in Liberty so that Jim could get my cell phone activated (I don't try to have the number memorized as I write it down in several spots) and then dialed the vet's office so I could tell them we would be in Chillicothe before they closed - so would they please give the girls a bath.

We were in light moisture as we drove home - getting into Chillicothe about 3:30. We unloaded the truck and did much of the unpacking - even got some laundry started - then went to pick up the girls. We spent the rest of the evening watching Texas basketball, doing laundry, and holding the girls.

Snow had started about sundown and kept up through most of the night. The CT hinted that maybe we had between 3 to 5 inches, but the man who came to clear off our driveway this afternoon felt it was closer to 8 inches. We had quite a wind to go with it so there was a major drift on our driveway - and one area was clear.

After the driveway was done, we set out on several errands and I am ready to "hit the sack".

Jim is joining the two breakfast groups in the a.m. and I have a doctor's appointment right after lunch. Since I have to weigh in - I'll probably go very light on breakfast. We are thinking about maybe going to our new "steakhouse" for lunch when I get back from my doctor's visit.

Be safe.

Sun. & Mon. Feb. 4 & 5

From another two days of deep freeze in MO,

We opted to make a quick trip to Cabela's on Sunday. We left here with the plan of stopping at Perkins in St. Joseph for a good breakfast and then going on to Cabela's. The breakfast was good and we just beat the crowd so we didn't have to wait for a table. Jim quickly found what he was looking for (new pair of shoes) and we were on our way home. We were basically lazy in the afternoon and of course watched the Super Bowl in the evening.

Today we made a morning outing to the Y to walk. It seemed as if more people were there than usual, but that was okay. After cleaning up, we made a trip to McDonald's for an egg biscuit and then did three or four errands (of course the girls were with us on this outing -- toooo cold for them when we went to the Y.)

We ended up going to Applebee's for salads (actually half salads) for lunch. I had called in a phone survey and we had $3.00 off - then when our bill came it had already been paid for - a former student that both of us had enjoyed had picked up the tab. I am guessing we saw the "old goats" and felt sorry for us.

We dozed this afternoon as we are looking forward to the Texas basketball game this evening - comes on in about 5 minutes.

We have a series of errands for tomorrow, packing, delivering the girls to the kennel, and if we have the energy will shampoo the carpet upstairs before we go to bed.

We are thinking about leaving a little earlier than needed on Wednesday a.m. and eating a good breakfast at either Cracker Barrel or Perkins (St. J or Liberty) before going on to the airport. We have an 11:00 flight that puts us in to LA about 12:30 (2:30 our time) and I know I will be famished. My old stomach just doesn't deal with hunger very well anymore so maybe a good breakfast will help.

I may not be back on the computer until the 12th or 13th -

Be safe.

Fri., Sat. Feb. 2-3

From a sunny, but very cold MO,

The predicted low last night was to be a wind chill of between minus 15 to minus 20. I am not sure if it made it, but when I took the girls out about 1:30 this a.m., I added another layer of clothes. When I checked the outside temp. mid afternoon - it showed 14 degees!

We have watched a lot of basketball these past few days, made a trip to Jamesport and Trenton (of course had to stop at Huckleberry's for lunch on Friday), and beyond this have stayed indoors. We have skipped walking at the Y on both Friday and Saturday - shame on us.

The girls have spent a lot of time on our laps - dozing usually. Abby is quite the lap girl and is currently resting her chin on my left arm - makes for a difficult time typing.

We have watched most of the MU game today, all of the Texas game, and I'm sure we are planning on watching the KU game tonight. The girls love this as they have a "captive" lap during these times.

We have no specific plans on Sunday other than enjoying the morning newspapers and then curling up in the late afternoon to watch the superbowl. I have added zip-loc quart baggies to our list for either WalMart or HyVee as I thought we had extra, but discovered we are on our last box.

I can't remember if I have mentioned, but we are taking the girls to the kennel on Tuesday afternoon and then we fly on Wednesday a.m. to LA for a few days. We plan on taking in Holly's art show on Thursday, a women's basketball game at Loyola Marymount on Saturday and going with Tom and Linda to the Jay Leno comic club on Sunday evening. Of course we have some favorite eating places that we will need to include. We will spend some time with Margaret, but we haven't firmed up yet when that will be. We have an early morning flight on Monday to return to Missouri.

Be safe.

Thurs. Feb. 1

From what has been a sunny, crisp, breezy MO,

This has been a rather active day. We stayed up a little later than usual last night to watch the Texas basketball game - or at least I was up a little longer than usual.

The girls had a good night which means that I had a good night - was up only once with them and Jim took them outside about 6:00 this a.m.

We had seven for breakfast this morning with one new person - Julie Ashbrook. Those present as well were Pat, Jan, Clara, Margaret, and Mary W. I think Julie rather enjoyed herself.

Jim had a six month dental check-up a t 9:30 and I had mine at 10:15. The receptionist had fun with me when I arrived as she told me that I might be a little later as they had a "difficult" man in the chair at that time (of course she was referring to Jim.) I know our time with Chad takes longer than usual, but I always enjoy hearing where he has been and where he is traveling in the next six months - also get an update on how Betty is doing.

We loaded up the girls when I returned home and we headed to WalMart for about four items and then stopped at Piece of Cake for quiche and cole slaw.

I made myself sit down this afternoon and do the preliminary work on the scholarship data - went smoothly - and ended up delivering the needed paperwork to the local high school, V-T for Frank to pick up tomorrow and take to Southwest, and a publicity statement to the local newspaper. I was so relieved when it was over that I settled in for some genealogy work.

I fixed sour cream enchiladas for supper tonight along with a lettuce salad.

We did enjoy eating out with John and Sandy last night at our newest eating spot in town. I had a lucious pizza and Jim tried the rib-eye sandwich.

Jim joins the second group for breakfast in the a.m. and then needs to have the truck to Barnes Baker by 10:00 for an oil change. Beyond this, we have no plans set in concrete.

Be safe.
