Sept. 6-24

From a MO that has had a beautiful fall so far!

I hadn't realized it had been so long since I have put in some news - so here goes.

We have been to two home and one away high school football game since I last wrote. We have a team that is a lot of fun to watch this year - several boys can score, the line seems to be doing a good job of opening some holes for them, the backs actually seem to block for each other, the quarterback can do more than throw, the defense seems to know what to do, etc., etc., etc. This Friday we go to St. Joseph Benton which always is a close game. The state championship team of 1978 will be recognized at homecoming in October - sure wish I could persuade Doug to fly up here for the weekend.

Jim has seen his cardiologist for a yearly check-up - EKG was fine, bloodwork was fine, etc., etc., etc. - said he would see Jim in another year.

Jim saw his E,N,& T doctor today at Liberty. The news wasn't as optimistic on this front. He has not gained in hearing in his right ear - in fact he has declined. The audiologist upped the level of his right hearing aid, but cautioned that he might find the extra "noise" coming in uncomfortable. He seems to be able to hear noise, but can't seem to differentiate enough on specifics - had a horrible time trying to repeat words that were being given to him today as an example. We will go back and see her in three months. She gave him a name of a hearing doctor who does some kind of surgery, but she didn't seem too excited about the success. Jim will run the doctor's name by Dr. Metry the next time he sees him.

Another issue that came up today was Jim mentioned going fishing next week and the doctor asked who went with him. She advised him not going out on the boat alone - vertigo being the issue - and Jim was not happy with this "suggestion." There are any number of people who would be available to go with him, but ----

On Saturday of this week, we are going to the Atchison and Leavenworth area to attend the wedding of a son of one of my first cousins. (With an away game on Friday night and a trip to eastern Kansas on Saturday, we will need a few days to recuperate.)

Jim sees his urologist on Wednesday of this coming week and will have a new Viadur implant put into his arm. This needs a few days to heal before he returns to his full steam. I don't think Medicare would be too happy with him doing damage to this implant - several years ago it was almost $7,000.

The next week we go back to Liberty for him to have a one year check up with his orthopedic surgeon.

I have done the computer work for a couple of Mondays this month and will also do one more this month. The lady who typically does the work has been having back issues, but should be back the latter half of October.

I talked to Doug this week and we have an invitation to go to Austin for Thanksgiving. We haven't seen Doug and Dara since last Thanksgiving so we are looking forward to the time spent there.

Jim is looking forward to watching the USC football game tomorrow night (Thursday.)

Be safe.

Aug. 24 - Sept. 5

From what has been a rainy MO,

Last Monday (a week ago) Jim and I went to Liberty for a meeting with Dr. Luce - his E,N,&T doctor. She "reminded" us that he had earlier been diagnosed with Meniere's disease - and that he had a "strong" attack this past Friday. She suggested things to do if he seemed to be having some early symptoms, so maybe we can ward off another trip to the emergency room.

The next day we had 6 month check-ups with our dentist - both of us had teeth cleaned - and otherwise escaped unharmed.

Last Friday we went to Marshall for the first official football game of the year. We were in a conference with Marshall for many years and then we switched to a conference that included schools to the west of us. Our team looked good so hopefully that is an omen of the season to come.

I had the computer work for Mobile Meals this past Monday (and will again this coming Monday) as Darla is under the weather.

Dustin came this afternoon and put a sealer coat on the deck. He does a really nice job and had it done it an hour. Jim just had him do the inner part of the deck - bench and walking area. We'll have him come back in a month and put a second coat down and look at rest of area for touch ups.

I had a small section of a tooth break off earlier this week and went in yesterday afternoon to have the area filled. I hadn't had need of an "shot" for 24 years - so guess my old teeth are holding up rather well.

We have a home football game tonight. Showers are in the forecast and the sun has already disappeared for the day. Previously it had been a gorgeous fall day.

On Saturday and Sunday will be the annual Chautauqua in the park. When I went to HyVee a few minutes ago, highway 65 is lined solid on the west side as displays are being set up. I hope to wander through it in the morning.

On Saturday - late afternoon - we will be heading to Edinburg for the annual reunion that one of the older residents puts on each year. He was a childhood buddy of Jim's so Jim always looks forward to this outing. He BBQs many pounds of meat and those attending just bring a covered dish as well as needed seating.

This coming Wednesday, we head to the NKC area as Jim sees his cardiologist for a yearly visit. He had bloodwork done a couple of weeks ago so we should be able to get those results as well.

Jim sees Dr. Luce again towards the end of September and the last weekend we are going to Kansas to attend a wedding of a son of one of my first cousins.

Take care.
